Video Dot Yahoo Dot Com

Major props to my fellow webdevs for burning many gallons of midnight oil to get this new site up and running. I especially dig the channels feature - you can aggregate your own videos or create playlists of videos which you can then share. Great work!

New DHTML MMO: Nowhere Else and Beyond

From the site: Nowhere Else and Beyond is the first Web RPG that allows players to explore exotic locations in 2D or 2.5D, interacts with other players, or builds your own islands and creates quests. The best part is it's free and it runs within your browser and works on all platforms without any download.

where's andrew?

You are probably wondering (ok, probably not) where's Andrew and what's he up to? Why dont I post things daily?

Well, apart from being really busy creating things like livsearch at yahoo, I have several irons on the fire. One of those irons is a web based mmo. What will it be like? Well, all's you gotta do is go back into the past of this blog and look at my ideas - perhaps that will help formulate some of what it will be like. If you are in the small select croud of people who bother to read this blog, and want to be in on the pre-alpha, feel free to email me. Triptych --- at --- gmail ---- dot ----- com.

Adobe Labs Spry DHTML library

Looks like Adobe is working on a DHTML library. I wonder if they will use this to make a DHTML version of Flex like Laszlo is doing for LZX...

This is HUGE! YUI libraries updated and open sourced!

You know what's bigger than big? The fact that the core libraries that I use on a daily basis here inside Yahoo! have been released to the world with all of the engineering, browser compatibility, all the CSS workarounds, and tons of new features, widgets, and other jiggery pokery. If you do any DHTML you would be cheating yourself not to go download and try out all this great stuff -- not just the DHTML stuff but the CSS grids are huge in and of themselves. Imaging creating a page that looks great in all browsers and degrades gracefully in older ones with a minimum of work!

Shweeeah this is gewd stuff!

Alltheweb Livesearch (beta)

It's interesting to write about something I've been working on exclusively for a while now. This Livesearch thing is a site that suggests to you terms that are most like the term it thinks you are typing. It has tons and tons of AJAX goodness - popup windows, dynamic content, event handling, you name it. Thanks to the YUI platform codebase we were able to conceptualize, design, and implement this site in a suprisingly small amount of time. I hope you enjoy playing around with it!

AFLAX is coming out with a neat new drawing layer that will use canvas style calls to create images - it will use canvas, flash or even DHTML divs to create images. Nifty!
